Council funding lifts the lid on city's hidden history

Friday, 27 April 2018

Brisbane City Council is helping history buffs uncover the city’s exciting past, with more than $80,000 awarded as part of the Brisbane History Grants Program.

The History Grants Program provides a well-deserved boost to the city’s avid historians so they can share their knowledge of Brisbane’s rich history with residents and visitors.

The Queensland Football History Project group, which is located in the Hamilton Ward, was awarded $7,590 to develop the largest available collection of historical football data and memorabilia.

Clayfield resident Matthew Wengert will receive more than $21,000 through the prestigious Helen Taylor Research Award for Local History.

The Lord Mayor’s Helen Taylor Research Award for Local History, supports history students and independent researchers to undertake projects that focus on informing or educating the community about the city’s history.

I wish him well in publishing a book and delivering a speaking tour of our city’s libraries on Brisbane’s Spanish flu epidemic in 1918 and 1919.
