A New Park for Ascot
Wednesday, 28 September 2016
Many people may be unaware that the area currently used as the Brisbane Racing Club (BRC) Members’ Carpark on the corner of Lancaster Road and Kitchener Road, Ascot, was once a grand park called Ascot Park.
The 1933 photo here shows Ascot Park looking south west from McGill Avenue towards Lancaster Road. This area will be returned to Council control as part of an agreement reached with the BRC during its current master plan improvements program and the relocation of the Members’ Carpark to an on-course location (in the middle of the track).
I’d love to hear from residents about what we should aim to include. For example, do we want a bandstand rotunda as shown in this photo? Please email hamilton.ward@bcc.qld.gov.au with your thoughts, keeping in mind we won’t be able to start on this work until 2017.
