Facelift for Racing Precinct
Posted on Tuesday, 20 March, 2012
Lord Mayor Graham Quirk is delivering a facelift to Racecourse Road for Hamilton Ward residents and visitors, with a rejuvenation project about to start in the busy precinct.
The $70,000 upgrade is a part of Council’s commitment to making Brisbane Australia’s cleanest and greenest city.
This project is just another way Council is creating hope, confidence and opportunity for Brisbane businesses and residents, enhancing Racecourse Road with several beautification and environmental initiatives.
This Neighbourhood Enhancement Project was designed following community feedback, with locals helping Council identify practical ways to improve their local area and make it an even better place to live.
Improvement works will include an extensive street lighting upgrade, installing new bins and rejuvenating the existing garden beds which adorn Racecourse Road.
As a very popular evening dining destination, the lights upgrade will increase the visual appeal of the street and provide an improved night-time setting for businesses.
In addition, Council will install 27 new anodised aluminium 240 litre bins, including 8 recycling bins. These bins will replace the existing bins along Racecourse Road.
The NEP project will get underway next month and will be completed by early June, weather permitting.
