Brisbane City Council has released a new smartphone app to help residents stay up-to-date with their bin collection days and recycle more effectively. I believe the Brisbane Bin and Recycling app will be a handy tool for busy households.
The app is a quick and simple guide for residents to check their bin collection days, learn what to recycle and stay informed about Council’s other waste services such as free tipping weekends.
The bin collection calendar from Council’s website is included in the app with a notification option to remind residents when general waste, recycling and green waste bins are collected from their address.
The app extends on the Brisbane’s Best Recycling Guide For Households booklet by listing items with images and explaining how each can be recycled in Brisbane.
Residents can also access general information about Council’s waste facilities through the app and receive directions to their closest transfer station.
Council's website has hosted the bin collection calendar since 2010 and the online tool has proven to be a popular resource to householders, receiving around 5500 unique page visits each month.
Research shows one of the biggest barriers to increasing recycling is fear of putting the wrong thing in the recycling bin and ruining the whole load.
This app is designed to make those decisions quick and simple, so we can work together to make Brisbane a clean and green city.
The Brisbane Bin and Recycling app is free to download through the Apple Store and Google Play.
Residents without access to a smartphone or tablet can continue to access the bin collection calendar on Council’s website.
